Mama Ntombi's Community Projects

Mama Ntombi’s Community Projects was founded in 2007 and is caring for about 450 children at the Jika Joe and Ezinketheni Informal Settlements.

Their main focus areas are:

  • Caring for Orphaned and Vulnerable Children
  • Educational support
    o Career guidance
    o Home visits to identified vulnerable children at risk
    o Visits to the schools they attend to ensure that they receive all the help and support to excel academically
    o Financial Assistance for school uniforms, shoes, bags and stationary. (BEE – SED spend)
    o Providing research material for school assignments
  • Mentoring and training 10 youth leaders who are now our peer educators and counsellors in their own communities
  • HIV & AIDS workshops for teens, tweens and their caregivers
  • Holiday Clubs during the long summer and winter school breaks
  • Poverty alleviation (here is where we could focus our main efforts)
    o Provision of food hampers for destitute families
    o A weekly feeding programme for the children
    o Providing clothes and other essentials
    o Assisting with grant applications
    o Sustainable food gardens
    o Donations of wonder boxes for meal preparation
  • * Sports Clubs and cultural activities to keep children occupied and off the streets
  • * Strengthening family support
  • * Disaster relief in the current areas of our operation (Jika Joe and Ezinketheni)
